Case Study – Fairtrade Fortnight – 2011

In Fairtrade Fortnight, 2011, we worked with schools to focus on Fairtrade Cotton. We held a celebration of Gosport Schools’ work on Fairtrade – hosted by the Mayor at Gomer Junior School Chamber- 10th March. and later at the Town Hall

Ten schools (from Infants to Secondary) particpated : some displayed their work about Fairtrade; some brought Fairtrade cotton bunting and banners they made from Fairtrade cotton. Delegates were encouraged to bring along Fairtrade product wrappers theycollected to make a collage together on the day. There were opportunities to find out about Fairtrade school uniforms; games, quizzes and fun activities schools can do in relation to Fairtrade and how to become a Fairtrade School. After the event the delegates were invited by the Mayor, Councillor Roger Allen, to an Award Ceremony in the Council Chamber, where each school was awarded a certificate to acknowledge their contribution to a better understanding of Fairtrade in the Borough of Gosport.
